When can I start sleep training?

I begin formal sleep training at approximately 4 months of age, provided your baby is developmentally ready, growing well, and your pediatrician has not recommended ongoing overnight feedings for medical or growth reasons.

What is sleep training?

Sleep training is a process that involves teaching your child healthy sleep habits and routines, fostering independent sleep.

Is it possible to sleep train a newborn?

How long does it typically take to see results with infant sleep training?

On average, babies are fully sleep trained in about two weeks, though the timeline can vary depending on parent consistency and dedication. Following a consistent approach is key to success.

What ages do you sleep train?

Sleep training can typically begin around 4 months and works well up to about 4 years old. The approach is tailored to your child’s age, developmental stage, and individual needs.

When is the best time to start sleep training?

It’s ideal to start when you can commit to two consecutive weeks without travel, major schedule changes, or visitors. Your child should be healthy and not sick, and if they can stay at home in a familiar environment. This consistency gives the best chance for successful sleep training.

Will sleep training harm my baby emotionally?

No—when done with compassion and consistency, sleep training does not harm your baby emotionally. In fact, it helps them learn healthy sleep habits, which support their overall well-being. Responding to their needs during the day and maintaining a loving, predictable environment ensures they feel secure and cared for throughout the process.

How long will my baby cry during sleep training?

The amount of crying varies depending on your baby’s age, temperament, and the method used. Some babies settle quickly, while others may take a few nights to adjust. Consistency, patience, and a calm approach help minimize stress and teach your baby to self-soothe effectively.
